European Trusted Cloud – Secure and robust storage of data Read more

The European Parliament is driving the question of secure and robust storage of data within the European Union (EU). With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European Commission (EC) intends to strengthen and unify data protection for individuals within the EU.

On the agenda are questions about where data should be stored, providers to be trusted, and how to regulate the sector. Today, no single organisation can supply these services in line with European directives. EIT Digital partners are therefore collaborating to solve these issues.

A number of short presentations will be followed by an open discussion on new data protection requirements, what it means to business and how the challenges can be solved.

Mobile broadband for the masses and mobile broadband in the air Read more

Mobile broadband is widely available in urban Europe, even in the most rural areas. Massive spontaneous gatherings and events such as concerts in a park can attract more than 1000 or even 100,000 times the usual number of Internet users. Catering for this level of adhoc massive demand poses considerable challenge for providers. The EIT Digital Royal Garden Project is working on a solution for such events.

Supplying reliable Internet connectivity in the air is not a mere technical challenge, but one in terms of regulation, coordination and business. With the aim of seamless Internet connectivity regardless of location; city, airport or in the air, the EIT Digital ICARO.eu project is working to challenge the current state of play and supplying seamless broadband for air travel.

Per Ödling from Lunds University and Cicek Cavdar from KTH will present above projects in a session moderated by Osborn Hogevik from EIT Digital. Jens Zander from KTH will talk about an old but hot topic on the need for collaboration between licenced and non-licenced spectrums in order to cater for the massive demand without disturbances.

Disrupting current business models of IoT Read more

The IoT market of today is fragmented consisting of many different business segments and separate solutions. The providers have specialised solutions for all aspects of IoT, including communication, security and management. Interconnectivity between different solutions is near impossible and very costly. In order to grow the market, and enable the expansion of IoT, the industry has realised that change is needed and this includes standardisation. Regardless of the industry segment, fragmentation is a prevalent difficulty.

EIT Digital partners are developing an IOT platform for diverse business segments. It reduces costs, risks and thresholds for application development and market entry, and increases access to new markets and opportunities for integration of different applications.

Short pitches will introduce the panel discussion on the topic revolving on the current development of silos and fragmentation of the IOT business segments and what effect that has on money, work and environment, and what is needed for the growth of a dynamic IoT sector.

Robustness – headache of tomorrow or today? Read more

Europe is increasingly dependent on a robust, secure and well-functioning communication and computing infrastructure. Ticketing and transportation systems are examples of sectors that are susceptible to disturbances and disruptions in the ICT infrastructure.

Besides internet disruptions, electrification blackouts has a severe impact on the digital infrastructure and can cause disruption to our daily lives, and halt public services, e.g. emergency services and medical services.

Within short, self-driving cars, in need of uninterrupted communication and coordination, will be on our streets. Have we taken this challenge seriously enough? What is the worst case scenario? How vulnerable is Europe really?
